OPERATING SYSTEM AND FILE MANAGEMENT
1)List down all the operating system used in a
desktop/laptop today and find good descriptions of how operating system
work?Hence,state their advantages and disadvantages.

UNIX OPERATING SYSTEM
·
Provides true multi-user,
multitasking,protected memory operation,while using a minimal amount of memory.
· Unix provides solid user security via its
account validation and authentication.
. In unix ,everythings is a file,including the
terminal and devices,which means it
can run on a number of different hardware platforms,making it easy for users
to install on whatever hardware they choose to use.

· Documentation on many of these tools is hard
to find,and is also incomplete.
· Not a very user friendly operating system.
·
Its basic interface is the command line and
even experienced users can make mistakes using this interface.
·
It can be cryptic and even though there are
numerous utilities and applications for unix platforms which can be too much
for someone new to unix.

WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM
·
Easy to use,especially for new computer
users,plenty of help resources are available online.
· It has a large library of available
software,games,and utilities.
·
Hardware manufacture all make drivers and
support for windows operating system.

Can be expensive.
· Lags behind it competitors
· Openess to virus attacks is a major
disadvantages.

MAC OPERATING SYSTEM
· Mac is a much more secure OS,and is far less
open to viruses and malware.
·
Stability is a major advantages.
·
It very rarely crashes,loses data or freezes.

· It is
expensive operating system.
·
Mac computer are more expensive generally
than PC’s.

LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM
·
It is
an open source operating system,which in most cases is free.
·
It is very reliable and rarely freezes.
·
Many programs are free or open source,even
the very complex ones.
· Fewer computer programs,games,utilities are
available for linux.
· The open source nature of linux allows more
advanced users to customise the code as they wish.

Inexperienced computer users may find it more difficult to get grips with linux.
·
There are still some manufacture that not
offer hardware support for linux operating system,although there are fewer
every years.
· Only a few people use Linux,therefore it is
more difficult to find someone familiar with it although there are vast
resources online.

CHROME OPERATING SYSTEM
·
Consistent and stable operating system.
·
Pages and applications are running isolated
in memory from others.
· Perfect for novice users.
· It is fast when it is used.
· The newest generation of chromebooks have
recorded 7 seconds to fully load the operating system from boot up.

·
It is very difficult to run all of the
programs if there is issues on internet connectivity seeing that many
operations require a stable connection to the internet to perform.
·
Chromebooks running chrome operating system
are unable to perform types of offline leisure like playing games,image
editing and programming making operating system less useful for those who
want more out of their computers.
